Getting Started

From install to your first timeline in under two minutes. No configuration wizard required.

1. Open the app in Jira

Once Simple Gantt is installed, open it from Jira's top navigation: Apps → Simple Gantt. If your admin has added it to a project, you can also reach it from the project sidebar. There is nothing to set up first — the app opens straight to your projects.

2. Select or create a project

A Simple Gantt project is a saved view backed by a Jira data source. Pick an existing project from the list, or create one by giving it a name and a JQL query (for example project = ABC) that selects the issues you want on the timeline. The issues stay in Jira — the project just decides which ones appear.

3. Read your timeline

Your Jira issues appear as bars on a horizontal timeline, positioned by their start and due dates and grouped into phases. Parent issues roll up their children, so you see the whole plan at a glance. Scroll horizontally to move through time and use the zoom controls to switch between day, week, and month views.

4. Make your first changes

Two interactions cover most day-to-day work:

  • Adjust dates: drag a bar to move it, or drag its edge to change the duration. The dates are written straight back to Jira.
  • Expand and collapse phases: click a phase to show or hide its child issues, so you can focus on one part of the plan without losing the overview.

That's it

You now have a live Gantt view of your Jira work. From here you can add dependencies and milestones, customize columns, and export the view — but none of that is required to get value on day one.
